Lithuanian broadcaster LRT has today announced the opening for submission of songs to its national selection in 2021. Interested artists and composers can submit entries to the broadcaster until 14th December 2020, with the intention of revealing the successful participants on 23rd December 2020. All the rules for the national selection and application form can be found here.
A working group will be supervising the selection process, with Deputy General Director Gytis Oganauskas of LRT acting as lead. Eurovision fans will recognise Vytautas Bikus (Lithuania’s Eurovision 2015 entrant) who will also be involved along with other producers and members of LRT.
LRT are organising a virtual meeting on 5th November 2020 for any interested parties. The virtual meeting will offer opportunity to ask questions to the broadcaster about the selection and to hear LRT’s expectations for the potential performers, producers and songwriters. Anyone interested in taking part in the virtual meeting need to register here.
Lithuania’s Eurovision 2020 entrant The Roop have an automatic pass to the final following the cancellation of the contest this year due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. However, the band has yet to announce whether they will participate in the national selection in 2021.
LRT changed the format to its national selection in 2020 in order to bring it closer to the Eurovision show format. Changes included the jury panel would watch outside the main studio and no longer comment after each song. As well, the overall voting totals were revealed at the end of each show. In response to the changes last year, LRT released the following statement:
“The selection of the national Eurovision have paid off, therefore there will be no cardinal innovations in this year’s selection rules, except for the circumstances related to the pandemic.”
The first show will be broadcast 16th January 2021. It is not confirmed how many shows will be broadcast, as it will be dependant on the number of entries that are successful in progressing to the live shows.
