It’s confirmed! After an initial report saying that Portugal will “most likely” take part, the Portuguese broadcaster RTP have confirmed that the Iberian nation will compete in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Warsaw, Poland this November.
The national broadcaster RTP went on to say that they will take part if the contest does not get cancelled despite there being no indication from the host broadcaster TVP or the EBU that the contest will get cancelled.
Portugal debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 and Pedro Madeira represented them with the song Deixa-me sentir. He came in 14th place with 22 points. They withdrew in 2007 and returned after 10 years with the song Youtuber by Mariana Venâncio. The song came in 14th place with 54 points.
Portugal’s latest entry came from Joana Almeida with the song Vem Comigo (Come with Me). She came in 16th place with 43 points.
