Leonhard Baumgartner wins Eurovision Young Musicians 2024 for Austria

Austria has won Eurovision Young Musicians 2024.

17 year old Leonhard Baumgartner from Austria has been crowned the winner of the 21st edition of Eurovision Young Musicians, which took place in Bodø, Norway on 17th August 2024.

The show was broadcast live from Bodø’s Stormen Concert Hall at 21:00 CET yesterday evening, with journalist and radio host Silje Nordnes, and dancer Mona Berntsen as hosts of the show. Eleven countries took part, with each artist being accompanied by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, conducted by Eivind Aadland.

  2. Switzerland – Valerian Alfaré – Euphonium – “Paul Mealor: Excerpt from Euphonium Concert”
  3. Belgium – Mahault Ska – Piano – “Felix Mendelssohn: Piano Concerto in G minor, 1st movement”
  4. Austria – Leonhard Baumgartner – Violin – “Henri Vieuxtemps: Violin Concerto No. 5 in A minor, 1st movement”
  5. Armenia – Hayk Hekekyan – Oboe – “Ludwig August Lebrun: Oboe Concerto No. 1 in D minor, 1st movement”
  6. France – Pierre-Emmanuel Hurpeau – Piano – “Maurice Ravel: Piano Concerto in G, 3rd movement”
  7. Sweden – Hugo Svedberg – Cello – “Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 in D major, 1st movement”
  8. Poland – Jeremi Tabęcki – Clarinet – “Luigi Bassi: Concert Fantasia on motives from Rigoletto”
  9. Serbia – Bogdan Dugalić – Piano – “Sergei Rachmaninov: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini”
  10. Germany – Fabian Egger – Flute – “Jakob Gade / Toke Lund Christiansen: Tango Fantasia for flute and orchestra”
  11. Czechia – Adam Znamirovský – Piano – “Camille Saint-Saëns: Piano Concerto No. 2, 3rd movement”

The final results were decided by a professional jury panel, which was chosen by Norwegian broadcaster NRK. The jury was made up of four members:

  1. Tabita Berglund (Norway) – Conductor and chair of the jury
  2. Marianna Shirinyan (Armenia/Denmark) – Pianist 
  3. Martin Grubinger (Austria) – Multi-Percussionist
  4. Andreas Sundén (Sweden) – Clarinetist

The winner of this years contest will receive a special prize from the Nordland Music Festival, which includes: an exclusive festival package (featuring a solo performance with a professional orchestra), collaboration with renowned musicians, and a tailor-made educational and experience program in 2025. In addition to this, they will also receive a PR and photo package, including a promotional film with audio recording in a professional sound studio.

Eurovision Young Musicians began in 1982, and has been held biennially since then. Previous winners, who have gone on to achieve worldwide success include: Julian Rachlin (Violin), Natalie Clein (Cello) and Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad (Viola), among others. The last edition was held in Montpellier, France in 2022 and was won by Czech violinist Daniel Matejča, who performed “Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto.”
