Krunoslav “Kićo” Slabinac, the Croatian singer who represented Yugoslavia at Eurovision in 1971, has passed away at the age of 77.
Born on the 28th March 1944, Krunoslav started performing in several different rock bands in the 1960s.
After pursuing a solo career in 1969, he entered the Yugoslav national final, Jugovizija, in 1971 with his powerful love ballad “Tvoj Dječak Je Tužan” (Your Boy Is Sad). He won Jugovizija, beating eight other acts, and won the right to represent Yugoslavia at Eurovision. The song came 14th out of 18 entries, earning 68 points.
After Eurovision, he became famous for his music inspired by the folk songs of Slavonia, the North-Eastern region of Croatia in which he was born.
Krunoslav sadly passed away on the 13th November 2020, following a long battle with heart disease.
We here at Eurovoxx give our deepest condolences, and our thoughts are with his family and those who knew him. May he rest in peace.
