On December 17th in Latvia, the 7th annual charity marathon “Dod Pieci!” (“Give Five!”) took place! This is a charity marathon that happens every Christmas for over 7 years which is hosted by Latvian Radio 5 with author Toms Grēviņš, who has been a commentator since 2015 and point announcer in 2016 for Latvia at Eurovision Song Contest.
The meaning of this marathon is to address big issues in Latvia, like to remember to give presents to retired people and help children with disabilities.
For this year’s marathon, Latvian Radio 5 addressed domestic violence in Latvia as it’s figures for the crime are one of the highest amongst other European countries with 38.2 while the average is 27.5 in the rest of Europe, according to European Gender Equality Index.
This year it lasted for 6 days, a total of 152 hours and brought together various people such as social media influencers, company executives and music artists across Latvia, including Eurovision representatives for Latvia, like Samanta Tīna, Aminata, Roberto Meloni and Intars Busulis.
The charity is conducted within the international charity project “Serious Request”.
Up to this date, in the 7 year period there has been 1.7 million euros donated in total.
So I and all of Eurovoxx says a very, very big thank you to Latvian Radio 5 and Toms Grēviņš!
