Julia Alfrida has won the ticket to Melodifestivalen 2021 as P4 Nästa 2020 comes to an end

| September 12, 2020

Julia Alfrida, one of the fianlists of P4 Nästa 2020, has won the right to compete in Melodifestivalen 2021.

The show was eventually won by Hilde and Erik with their song “Som Det är”. But despite not winning the show, Julia was chosen by jury panel to take part in Europe’s biggest national final. The jury was made up of Rita Jernquist and Germund Stenhag, (both of whom are music editors for P4), Maths Broborg, project manager for P4 Nästa and Melodifestivalen competition producer Karin Gunnarsson.

Julia performed her song “Dark Room” at the P4 Nästa final, but for Melodifestivalen, she will need a brand new song, as all competing songs cannot be performed or released before the semi final.

Karin Gunnarsson, competition producer for Melodifestivalen, has explained why Julia was chosen for Melodifestivalen 2021, and not the shows winners Hilde and Erik.

“When choosing a P4 Nästa winner, you have a greater focus on the song, as the winner wins gigs on the radio with the song they competed with. For Melodifestivalen, it’s an artist we are looking for. Julia Alfrida will not compete with her P4 Nästa contribution as that song has already been performed in public.”

P4 Nästa has been around since 2008, but it wasn’t until 2012 that the partnership with Melodifestivalen began. Since then, a total of 8 acts have gone on to Melodifestivalen from P4 Nästa; but unfortunatley, none of them have managed to advance to the final. The best result of the P4 Nästa acts has been 5th place in the final, achieved by Terese Fredenwall in 2013 and Smilo in 2016.
