Jeangu Macrooy to sing ‘Birth of a New Age’ in Rotterdam

The Dutch entry for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest performed by Jeangu Macrooy is named as Birth of a New Age. Jeangu will perform the song in Rotterdam this May, representing the host country of this year’s contest.

Birth of a New Age is set to be officially released tonight at 19:00 CET. The song reveal is taking place live on a broadcast that will be available to steam globally via the AVROTROS YouTube channel and Songfestival social media pages.

Who is Jeangu Macrooy?

Jeangu Macrooy is a Surinamese singer and songwriter from Paramaribo, and has lived in the Netherlands since 2014. His main genres have been described as modern soul, pop and alternative.

In January 2020 it was announced that Jeangu would represent the Netherlands at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest with Grow. Due to the contest’s subsequent cancellation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, this was not possible.

Soon after the contest’s cancellation however, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS soon announced that Jeangu will represent the Netherlands as the host country in 2021.
