Jaguar Jonze strikes out in support of #metoo

| August 21, 2020

After inviting us down the rabbit hole at Australia’s National Final, Eurovision – Australia Decides in February, Jaguar Jonze is back, with a dark and moody cover of Britney Spears’ Grammy winning hit Toxic.

The song covers a much darker and more personal meaning to Jaguar, who is currently spearheading the #metoo campaign in the Australian music industry.

In a press statement, Jaguar said of the song selection:

“I often take to songwriting as an outlet for all my emotions, but after an overwhelming few weeks being on the frontline of the recent #metoo movement in the Australian music industry, sometimes it’s all too much to sit down and pen your own song.

Sometimes, singing a cover in your own way is the best catharsis”

2020 has been a roller-coaster ride for Jaguar Jonze. During her performance of Rabbit Hole at Eurovision – Australia Decides, she dislocated her shoulder, and still powered on through, finishing in 6th place.

Shortly after, she had to cancel her US tour after becoming unwell. Upon return to her home in Brisbane, she tested positive for Covid-19. She has been very open in speaking about her experience with the virus, including how it impacted her mental health, and about creating discussion to remove any stigma around the virus.

What do you think of Jaguar’s cover of Toxic? Would you like to see her return to Eurovision – Australia Decides?
