Israeli public broadcastor KAN have confirmed their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, just weeks after announcing their entry for the upcoming 2021 contest in Rotterdam.
And with that announcement comes the news that KAN will once again be looking to partner with an external source to find their artist and song, after organising their own selection process in 2021.
In previous years, Israel has relied on popular television shows such as Keshet and HaKokhav HaBa to decide on their artist for Eurovision. Potential partner shows for 2022 may include HaKokhav HaBa or X Factor.
Are you surprised by such an early announcement by Israel? What is your favourite entry from Israel? Let us know in the comments below!
Since Israel debuted in Eurovision in 1973 with Ilanit and the song Ey Sham, they have gone onto win the contest four times. They are one of the few country to have won in 2 consecutive years, in 1978 and 1979, with A-Ba-Ni-Bi and Hallelujah! Furthermore, they also won in 1998 and 2018 with Diva and Toy. Israel has hosted the Eurovision 3 times, in 1979, 1999 and 2019. Eden Alene was supposed to represent the country in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the contest was cancelled. Eden is set to return to Eurovision 2021 with her song “Set Me Free”.
