Despite originally confirming participation earlier this year, TG4 have now confirmed in an e-mail to Eurovoix that they are no longer taking part in the 2020 contest.
The reason of withdrawl is the current COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on large gatherings and travel. TG4 have, however, also confirmed they are hoping to come back to the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Ireland have participated in every Junior Eurovision since their debut in 2015, where Aimee Banks represented the country with her song Réalta Na Mara, which got her a 12th place. One year later, in 2016 Ireland got their best result to date, when Zena Donnelly got the 10th place with Bríce Ar Bríce. Last year Anna Kearney reached the 12th place with her song Banshee.
