| October 23, 2020

Breaking news! This is the news that many Eurovision fans have all been anticipating! Daði Freyr has just announced on his Instagram page that he, alongside Gagnamagnið, will indeed represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 in Rotterdam next May! You can check out his post below:

This news has been a question in many Eurovision fans’ mind as Daði has expressed interest in representing Iceland in 2021, but only if he was internally selected as opposed to taking part in the long standing national selection “Söngvakeppnin”. He has said if the national selection were to go ahead next year, he would not take part in it.

The Icelandic Head of Delegation has previously stated that money is an issue due to COVID-19 budget cuts, so it is possible that they have internally selected the 2020 artists in order to cut costs.

This is very exciting news and we are absolutely looking forward on what Daði Freyr and Gagnamagnið will bring to the table next year!

Even though Iceland has never won the Eurovision, they have come second on 2 occasions, in 1999 with SelmaOut Of Luck and in 2009 with YohannaIs It True. Some of Icelands other most memorable entries are Silvia NightCongratulations (2006), Greta SalómeHear Them Calling (2016) and Hatari’s Hatrið mun sigra. Daði Og Gagnamagnið were one of the favourites to win 2020 before it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
