It has been a while since we had a country confirm their participation, but today we can add Serbia to the list! The Serbian national broadcaster RTS have confirmed that Serbia will be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam next May.
There were some speculation a few months prior about Serbia’s 2020 act Hurricane returning to the contest. Whilst there was no confirmation from the broadcaster or from Hurricane themselves, we are expecting more details regarding the selection methods hopefully in the near future, whether it is internally selecting Hurricane or using their national selection method Beovizija.
Serbia won the Eurovision as an independent country on their debut in 2007, when Marija Šerifović performed Molitva. She brought the 2008 contest to Belgrade. Since 2007 Serbia participated every year, with the exception of 2014. Serbia has one other top 3 placing when Žjelko Joksimović ended 3rd with his song Nije Ljubav Stvar. Hurricane won Serbia’s national final in 2020, so they were due to represent them in Rotterdam before the contest got cancelled.
