Bad news from Germany: Next to Russia for obvious reasons, Germany is now the second country who won’t participate at Junior Eurovision 2022 after attending in Paris. NDR has just stated through their website (www.eurovision.de) that they’ve based their decision due to a “creative pause” as well as a partial travel warning to Armenia caused by the conflict with Azerbaijan. However, the children channel KIKA will still broadcast the event and a return in 2023 has already been hinted. Therefore, there is hope that this will just be an one-time sitout from the competition. This year’s competition will be held in the Armenian capital Yerewan after Maléna has won the JESC 2021 with Qami, qami.

Despite numerous challenge concerning the Covid-19 pandemic, Germany debuted in 2020 with the song Stronger With You by Susan which finished last. Last year, Pauline won the German selection and therefore performed her song Imagine Us in Paris with a 17th place finish. Therefore, Germany can be considered as an unsuccessful country at Junior Eurovision at the moment. There poor results might have had an impact on this year’s decision.

Have you expected the withdrawal of Germany? Would you like to see them back to the competition and if so, have you got a possible artist in mind? Let us know down in the comments.
