We have news from Germany! Alexandra Wolfsladt, Head of the German Delegation for Eurovision, has revealed in a podcast that the Eurovision act for 2021 has been chosen. Last month, Eurovoxx and others reported that the selection process had been in the final stages. Until this point, we have no information about the song and whether the artist will be a newcomer or an already established artist.
The responsible broadcaster NDR held an internal selection consisting of a Eurovision jury made up from music experts, Eurovision fans and an international jury of former Eurovision jury members. In total, 100 people will decide the German entry, trying to match the taste of the Eurovision target group. Unlike other years, the German public itself has no influence on the result.
Ben Dolic was supposed to represent Germany for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam with the song Violent Thing. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this did not happen. Dolic decided that he won’t apply again for the German selection process 2021. Therefore, Germany will be one of the few countries with a different artist for 2021. Last time Germany competed in Eurovision was 2019 with the song Sister by the duo S!sters. With 24 points in total, they finished in 25th place. So far, Germany has chalked up two victories, 1982 with Ein bisschen Frieden by Nicole and 2010 with Satellite by Lena.
