Tina Karol, the Ukrainian superstar well-known for her song “Show Me Your Love” at Eurovision 2006, has worked alongside rapper Snoop Dogg, Loe and R&B singer Luca Dayz on her new single “Blow Your Mind”, which was released today.
With “Blow Your Mind”, Tina has followed her desire to publish music in English speaking countries. Her collaboration with Snoop Dogg began about a year ago, where she signed a contract with an independent label in America. Ukraine’s leading news site “Strana” published a short interview with Tina Karol in which she said: “I worked hard to make the artists from Ukraine competitive in this market. Not only in our country. I signed this contract, worked on the album and it took a long time before the first steps of this work became known.”
This however, is not the first time that Tina Karol has released music in the English language. Aside from her Eurovision hit “Show Me Your Love”, she went on to release the song “Пупсик” (Honey), with versions in both English and Ukrainian back in 2006.
According to Tina, the collaboration with Snoop Dogg turned out to be quite spontaneous. She added that she was once called by a representative of the American label and later confirmed her cooperation with Snoop Dogg. Tina has said of the collaboration:
“I sat at home, the phone rang. And the label representative tells me that we have great news for you, we will have a collaboration with Snoop Dogg. This was the first shock! And then they tell me you only have an hour to record your piece in the track! Another shock! Just an hour! I immediately thought, we have cool Ukrainian authors. Immediately found a new song by one of our Ukrainian authors, I cooperate with him, took a piece from it, invested, sang, made a text. And it turned out to be a whole picture.”
Both artists decided not to shoot a music video due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; so instead, they have released a lyric video.
Tina Karol is one of the most popular artists in her homeland, Ukraine, where she not only releases songs and albums with great success, but who has also been a part of the jury for the Ukrainian Eurovision National Selection, and also went on to be a mentor for The Voice of Ukraine.
