Festivali i Këngës 59 participant Manjola Nallbani tests positive for Covid-19

| December 7, 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the entire world, especially the music industry which has been hit by restrictions with cancellations of pretty much every concert. Besides internet projects, music festivals and competitions on television are the only shows that are allowed to work at the moment. However, there is always a risk of getting infected by Covid-19 and therefore be out of work for at least 2 weeks with the possibility of having long term health issues or even fatality.

In terms of music competitions, a positive Covid-19 test has a huge impact on the result if an artist is unable to perform on a scheduled day. In order to avoid this scenario at Eurovision, every act will be pre-recorded. Therefore, even if an act is currently in quarantine, they can still participate. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 showed that this works.

Before Eurovision will take place though, the national selection season is about to happen. As always, Albania will start off the season on December 17th to 19th 2020 with the 59th edition of Festivali i Këngës. 26 acts will be competing for the victory as well as to be the representative for Albania at Eurovision 2021. For one participant though, a positive Covid-19 test may eliminate this chance, and that is Manjola Nallbani. On her social media channel, she has revealed her positive Covid-19 test and that she is currently in quarantine, unable to rehearse for the festival. Currently, she is still on the participants list and if she recovers in time, she will be able to participate as planned with the song Ora e jetës.
