Are changes coming to the semi final qualifiers announcement this year?
Speaking on the Euro Trip Podcast, the Executive Producers for Eurovision 2025, Reto Peritz and Mortiz Stadler, have confirmed that a new way of announcing the semi final qualifiers this year is on track and has been given the green light. At the present time, it is not known what changes will be made and how it will look like, but as is mentioned in the interview, all will be trialed in the dress rehearsal for semi final one on Monday 12th May.
This is not the first time that changes have been proposed to the way in which the semi final qualifiers are announced at Eurovision. Back in Liverpool in 2023, it was proposed that all the semi finalists would join the hosts on stage as they announced each qualifier one by one, similar to what is seen in shows like X Factor and Pop Idol.
During the dress rehearsal for semi final one, we saw the artists standing on the stage for a rehearsal of the proposed new qualifiers announcement. However, it received a lot of backlash online, and soon enough, the EBU announced they would be reverting back to the old qualifiers system, where all the acts are in the green room with their delegation as the qualifiers are announced.
What are your thoughts on the possibility of changes being made to the semi final qualifiers announcement? Do you think there needs to be any changes, or are you happy with the way it is now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
