Rylan Clark-Neal and AJ Odudu will host the Eurovision 2023 Allocation Draw on January 31.

The draw will take place at 20:00 CET (19:00 local time) from St George’s Hall in Liverpool. It will be broadcast live on BBC2 and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on the official Eurovision YouTube channel across the world.

It was also announced that the official 2023 theme and slogan will be revealed on January 31.

Rylan Clark-Neal will be best known by Eurovision fans for being a BBC commentator for the Eurovision semi finals since 2018. In a press statement from the BBC, Rylan said:

“From being part of the UK delegation since 2018, Eurovision has become such a big part of my life. I’m so excited to be presenting the handover and allocation draw which symbolises the start of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023; the year in which the United Kingdom hosts Ukraine’s party. It’s going to be an amazing year for Eurovision. I genuinely can’t wait.”

AJ Odudu, who delivered the UK’s jury points at Eurovision 2022, echoed this sentiment:

“It’s so exciting to have the Eurovision Song Contest in the United Kingdom in 2023. New and existing fans are in for an event like no other come May with spectacular live shows on the BBC and a city take over in Liverpool, all with British creativity and Ukrainian culture at its core . I can’t wait to kick things off with the draw later this month.”

What is the allocation draw?

The Eurovision allocation draw is an annual event that determines which countries will compete in each semi final, as well as which semi final each automatic qualifier will vote in.

This year, 31 countries will be drawn into the two semi finals, while France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ukraine and United Kingdom will be allocated a semi final to vote in. The 31 countries will be drawn into six pots, based on previous voting patterns to make the semi finals as fair as possible. Each country will also find out which half of each semi final they will perform, with the official running order being decided at a later date.

The event will also include the Mayor of 2022 Host City Turin, Stefano Lo Russo handing over the official Eurovision Song Contest keys, known as the Insignia, to the Mayor of Liverpool, Joanne Anderson.
