Eurovision 2023: Switzerland confirm participation and internal selection to find their act

Switzerland have confirmed they will be participating in Eurovision 2023, and that they will be using an internal selection to find their act.

Swiss broadcaster SRF have confirmed that Switzerland will once again be present at next years Eurovision Song Contest, and that they will once again be opting for an internal selection to chose their representative.

The submissions window will open on August 25th and will close on September 8th at 10:00pm CET. Songwriters, artists, producers and lyricists are all invited to submit an entry to the broadcater.

Terms and Conditions

The four Swiss broadcasters, SRF, RTS, RSI and RTR, who will be working together on Eurovision 2023, have set out a list of terms and conditions that all submissions must follow:

  • The broadcasters are looking for a contemporary song with international appeal that will stand out, and with lyrics that carry a strong, clear and easily understandable message. Lyrics can be in any language.
  • Every song that is submitted must be sumbitted by the copywright holder of the song, who can submit a maximum of 5 songs. They must be able to confirm the song is theirs and has not been plagarised in any way.
  • Songs cannot exceed 3 minutes in length.
  • If a song is submitted without an artist attached to it, a demo voice must be provided on the track.
  • Songs cannot have been released or performed prior to September 1st, 2022.

A panel made up of 100 viewers, and a 20-member international expert jury, will be in charge of chosing Switzerland’s Eurovision 2023 entry, with a 50/50 split, just like in Eurovision. The winning artist is expected to be revealed in early 2023.

Switzerland has been using an internal selection to chose their Eurovision representative since 2019, and have seen varying results come of it.

In 2019, Luca Hänni got Switzerland back in the top 5 for the first time since 1993, and Gjons Tears almost brought the contest back home in 2021 as he won the jury vote and finished in 3rd place overall. Marius Bear in 2022 achieved a third consecuritive semi final qualification for Switzerland, finishing in 17th place in the final.
