Further details have been revealed about this years Eurovision Village in Liverpool.
The Eurovision Village 2023, which is open from Friday 5th May until Saturday 13th May, will offer a wide variety of one-off shows, live performances, DJ sets and special guest appearances.
The Eurovision Village will also feature Discover Ukraine, an area that will be dedicated to celebrating Ukrainian creatives.
Lead singer of Kalush Orchestra, Oleh Psiuk, who will be in Liverpool with the rest of his group, has said: “We have never been to Liverpool before and you know, performing where the Beatles themselves started will be very inspiring. We believe that this year’s organisers of Eurovision 2023 will be able to best convey the Ukrainian atmosphere in the design of the show in Liverpool.”
Whilst the themes and headline performers for each day in the Eurovision Village have already been announced by Visit Liverpool, the full-line ups are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
Claire McColgan CBE, Director of Culture Liverpool, hopes to make this years Eurovision Village the best yet, as she explains:
“From talking to previous host cities we know the official Eurovision Village is a key part of the Eurovision experience and, as with our whole host city offer, we wanted Liverpool’s programme to go above and beyond what you would normally expect in a fan zone.
Across nine days, there will be a true celebration of music and unity, with household names, international acts and up-and-coming talent taking to the stage and performing – all against the stunning backdrop of our waterfront.
Ukraine is of course the thread which runs through everything, and as well as acts on the stage it is really important for us to dedicate areas that are focused on all aspects of Ukrainian culture.”
Eurovision Village 2023: day by day
Here is all the information about what events will be happening in the Eurovision Village each day, and which performers we can expect to see.
Friday 5th May - Welcome to Eurotopia (17:00-23:00 GMT)
The Eurovision Village will open with a performance from Kalush Orchestra. This will be followed by Welcome to Eurotopia, a musical odyssey created in collaboration between a supergroup of Liverpudlian and Ukrainian artists: Natalie McCool; Stealing Sheep; Helleroid; Krapka; KOMA and Iryna Muha.
Saturday 6th May - A Royally Good Party (10:30-23:00 GMT)
The Village will open in the morning in order to show the BBCs live coverage of the Corronation of King Charles III, before a whole host of Eurovision stars take to the stage.
After this, fans will get to experience the Royalty Ball, joyous extravaganza of costume, choreographed dance and the best of the North West’s vogue scene, with a large runway in the heart of the village. This event will be hosted by Liverpool’s House of Suarez.
Sunday 7th May - Firstival (12:00-TBC GMT)
Bank Holiday Sunday will see a day long kids festival, which will feature live performances and lots of fun from your favourites at CBBC and Cbeebies, with a special set from Andy and the Odd Socks!
LIMF Academy will also present local emerging artists, including neo-Jazz singer, Ni Maxine, vocal harmony band Mic Lowry and House Gospel Choir.
Monday 8th May - This Is Ukraine (12:00-23:00 GMT)
Bank Holiday Monday sees a celebration of the best new music with BBC Introducing. Alongside this, there will be a line-up of Ukrainian artists including Antytila, Go_A, alyona alyona and Jerry Heil.
Tuesday 9th May - Night At The Opera (12:00-23:00 GMT)
Before the live screening of semi final one, English National Opera does Eurovision will be the warm up act for the show. The world-renowned ENO Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Bell, will be joined by former Eurovision acts and international opera singers who will perform classical arrangements of Eurovision’s greatest hits.
Wednesday 10th May - United By Music (12:00-23:00 GMT)
The National Lottery and Music Venues Trust programme will put on The National Lottery presents United by Music, an evening dedicated to break out stars and musical icons.
Thursday 11th May - Jamala presents QIRIM (12:00-23:00 GMT)
Ahead of semi final 2, Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala will present her brand new album, Qirim, inspired by the folk songs of her native Crimea. She will be performing alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Friday 12th May - EuroEve (12:00-00:00 GMT)
Tik Tok’s Eurovision legends will be taking over the Eurovision Village stage ahead of an epic, all female party, EuroEve, which will feature artists such as Sophie Ellis Bextor and Charlotte Church’s Late Night Pop Dungeon, among many others.
Saturday 13th May - The Main Event (14:00-late GMT)
The Grand Final Party on the Pier Head will see a line-up of pop acts and special performances to build up to the main event and the biggest and best viewing party in Liverpool!
There will be a very special main guest hosts who will welcome the likes of Katrina Leskanich (of Katrina and The Waves) and Dutch royalty The Vengaboys.
This is the only date in which you will need a ticket for the Eurovision Village. Tickets cost £15, and can be purchased here.
