We had a blue carpet in Lisbon, an orange carpet in Tel Aviv, and now a turquoise carpet is coming to Rotterdam for the opening ceremony of Eurovision 2021. The ceremony is expected to take place at The Rotterdam Cruise Terminal. All of the delegations who will be in Rotterdam will be transported to the Cruise Terminal via boats.

The Rotterdam Cruise Terminal is located in Wilhelminapier, which is a small peninsula in Rotterdam. This venue was also due to host the opening ceremony for Eurovision 2020, before the contest was cancelled. Jelmar van de Wel, who works for the Cruise Terminal, made these comments ahead of the 2020 opening ceremony that never happened: It is a beautiful place with a unique view and there are many special stories attached to it.  It is an arrival place for international visitors to the city and in addition legendary events have been organized here for years. We are going to make a spectacular opening that will honour our beautiful city.”

The opening ceremony for Eurovision 2021 will be broadcast live on the official Eurovision YouTube channel on Sunday May 16th. The time has yet to be announced.
