Cypriot public broadcaster CYBC has announced that Greek singer Elena Tsagrinou will represent the sunny Mediterranean island at Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam. Elena will sing the song El Diablo which will be released at a later date
CYBC have already announced the artistic director for their 2021 entry, and it happens to be Austrian Martin Deimann, the very man behind Austria’s winning entrant in 2014, Conchita Wurst, and also Austria’s 2018 entrant Cesár Sampson who finished 3rd in the Grand Final.
Cyprus debuted at Eurovision in 1981 with the group Island and finishing 6th with the song Monika. Cyprus has participated at every contest since except for 1988, 2001 and 2014. The island has achieved a mixture of results in its history, with their best result in 2018 when Eleni Foureira finished 2nd with the song Fuego. In 2020, Sandro was internally selected to represent Cyprus with song Running. However, Eurovision 2020 was cancelled due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and it was confirmed in June 2020 that Sandro would not return for Cyprus for the 2021 contest.
