Scottish deputy Alyn Smith suggested Scotland’s participation independently from the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), a subject that will emerge after this year’s British zero points.

However, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) refuses this scenario. The UK has always been represented as a whole through the BBC broadcaster, which does not appear to change in the near future.

Quoted by Express.co.uk, an EBU spokesman clarified that there are no plans to change British participation in the event, which is under the responsibility of the BBC:

As a member of the European Broadcasting Union, the BBC is responsible for submitting an application to the Eurovision Song Contest that represents the entire United Kingdom. There are currently no plans to change this ”.

Other than Wales in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 and 2019, no UK nations have ever participated in Eurovision events on their own.
