Montenegro’s official broadcaster, RTCG, confirmed today that Montenegro will not be participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, due to be held in Rotterdam next May.
This will be the 2nd consecutive year that Montenegro will be absent from the Eurovision Song Contest after their withdrawal in 2020 due to limited funds available for the contest. Montenegro was also absent from Eurovision in 2010 and 2011.
At the time of writing, a total of 38 countries have confirmed their participation for the 2021 contest, whilst Montenegro joins Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovakia in confirming their withdrawal from the contest for at least another year.
Since debuting at Eurovision as an independent country in 2007, Montenegro has made 11 appearances, of which 9 failed to qualify to the final. In 2014 Sergej Ćetković made the final for the first time with his song “Moj Svet”. Knez got Montenegro’s best result the year after, in 2015 when he finished in 13th place with his song “Adio”. Some of Montenegro’s most memorable entries include “Euro Neuro” (2012), “Igranka” (2013) and “Space” (2017).
