Carmelo Martínez, a member of the Spanish group La Década Prodigiosa, has died at the age of 64 as a consequence of lung cancer. The group was chosen internally by RTVE for Eurovision 1988 with the song “Made in Spain (La chica que yo quiero)” and reached the 11th position with 58 points.

Carmelo was part of La Década Prodigiosa between 1985 and 1989. Later, he released two solo albums and formed two musical groups based on the original group: Decadance in 1996 and El Guateque de La Década in 2005, with which he was still active. He never forgot his roots in the Eurovision Song Contest and has participated in various events with Eurovision fans.

We would like to send our condolences and thoughts to Carmelo’s friends and family at this difficult time as well as the entire Eurofan community “in the South of the 43rd parallel”, as Carmelo sang in Eurovision to refer to Spain.
