Victoria has released her brand new song "Lover's Trial".
The Bulgarian singer-songwriter, who represented Bulgaria at Eurovision 2020 and 2021, is back with a brand new single and music video. “Lover’s Trial” is Victoria’s first release with Warner Music Poland.
Victoria has written “Lovers Trial” alongside American songwriter Sophie Hintze, and Swedish songwriters and music producers Helena Larsson and Oliver Björkvall, who also produced the song. They have all previously worked together in some of Victoria’s past releases, including “Growing Up Is Getting Old”, “Phantom Pain”, “The Funeral Song” and “The Worst”.
The music video was filmed on the night streets of Sofia, Bulgaria, and features three of Victoria’s friends. It has been directed by Victoria Karakoleva from Mooncut Film Studio, with Damian Dimitrov as Director of photography.
The song is partially inspired by a recent break up that Victoria went through, as she explains: “I’ve recently experienced a break-up. Lover’s Trial was partially inspired by that, but it also tells a story that a lot of people can relate to. The endless cycle of disappointment and pain that we sometimes experience when the relationship with the person we love goes into the wrong direction. In my life I’ve been in a lot of those vicious cycles and with this song I want to free myself from those feelings and move forward.”
Lyrics for “Lover’s Trial”:
I can’t get away from you, can I?
Feels like I got more left to prove
We could do better, now, this time
You know I got nothing left to lose.
Seems so innocent
‘Til you find a way to cut me out
When I see the end
You come back again
Why d’you work so hard to keep me down?
When all I did was love you
But you can’t say the same ’bout me now can you?
And it’s all a vicious cycle
It’s a cruel test, lover’s trial
Say you want me, and I spiral
Nothing hurts quite like denial
When all I did was love you.
Think that I’m right ’bout you, aren’t I?
You’re just afraid to hear the truth
You choose the еasy way to hide
Behind all the liеs I’m seeing through.
And every now and then
Seems so innocent
‘Til you find a way to cut me out.
When I see the end
You come back again
And I’m hating how it’s looking now.
When all I did was love you
But you can’t say the same ’bout me now can you?
And it’s all a vicious cycle
It’s a cruel test, lover’s trial
Say you want me, and I spiral
Nothing hurts quite like denial
When all I did was love you.
Victoria’s career started out in 2015, when she took part in the fourth season of X Factor Bulgaria. She finished in sixth place, and went on to sign with MonteMusic, where she released her first single “Nishto Sluchayno”,
Victoria was internally selected by the Bulgarian broadcaster to be their representative for Eurovision 2020 with her song “Tears Getting Sober” which was also selected internally.
After the cancellation of the 2020 contest, the Bulgarian broadcaster brought back Victoria for the 2021 contest. Her entry “Growing Up Is Getting Old” was selected internally from a 5-song EP that Victoria had recently released. At Eurovision in Rotterdam, Victoria qualifed to the final, where she finished in joint 10th place (alongside Greece) with 170 points.
Since Eurovision, Victoria has continued to release music, alongside touring and performing on the third series of “The Masked Singer Bulgaria” in December 2021, which she won, performing as Miss. In the summer of 2022, Victoria took part in the biggest tour in Bulgaria: Coca-Cola The Voice Happy Energy Tour, and performed “How To Ruin a Life” at Sofia Pride.
