VRT have confirmed that they will be holding a national final to chose their Eurovision 2023 representative.
The Belgian Flemish broadcaster VRT, who are in charge of the country’s participation in Eurovision 2023, have announced that they will hold a national final to find their singer and song for the upcoming contest in the United Kingdom.
Peter Van de Veire, Eurovision commentator for VRT announced the news on “Zomerhit” on television channel “Eén”: “The VRT has the fantastic task of sending someone or ‘someones’ to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. I like the Eurovision Song Contest, but critics say it is ‘old box’. But that’s for the youth, for the future. That is why we have decided to do a little more with it this year than usual.”
At the present time, no further details have been revealed about Belgium’s national selection for Eurovision 2023, nor how the format of the national final will be.
Belgium’s national final next year will mark the first time the country has had a televised show to select their Eurovision since 2016.
VRT organised a national final for Eurovision 2016 in which Laura Tesoro reigned triumphant with “What’s The Pressure”. She went on to bring Belgium a top 10 finish at that years contest in Stockholm.
