Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO has announced that Ana Soclič’ song for Eurovision has been chosen. The song was chosen from 191 submissions. The song will be presented in the show ‘EMA 2021’ on February 27. The show will be hosted by Lea Sirk and Nejc Šmit.
Not much has been announced on the chosen song, apart from it being a non-ballad song in English. About her song Ana says:
“I sincerely thank everyone who contributed their copyrighted works, we had a hard time choosing. In fact, the song may sound great in the other singer’s interpretation, but with my vocal performance, it sounds completely different. I am very happy with the chosen song, I hope you will all be too. We also made good use of the unique opportunity to record backing vocals, which is allowed by this year’s Eurovision rules due to all the measures. I can’t wait to be able to share the song with you. And, no, it’s not a ballad.“
The song was selected in 2 stages, first an expert panel shortlisted 3 songs out of the 191 submissions. In the second stage, the 3 shortlisted songs were sung by Ana, and ultimately one song was chosen.
Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest
for the first time that year. After 1993, Slovenia has only missed 2 contests, in 1994 and 2000. Slovenia has never won the contest, and their best results were in 1995 and 2001 when the country finished 7th. Some of Slovenia’s most memorable entries include Samo Ljubezen (2002), Cvet Z Juga (2007), No One (2011) and Here For You (2015). Ana Soklič was selected to sing Voda at Eurovision 2020, before the cancellation of the contest. Ana has been internally selected for 2021.
