| August 5, 2020

Blas for Spain 2021

Blas Canto has been busy writing new music and preparing for Eurovision 2021 after accepting RTVE’s offer to return to represent Spain. Blas revealed in April 2020 that he aims to keep the same team and backing singers for Eurovision 2021 but would like an entry “that is totally different from Universo”.

However, The singer recently teased on his twitter about working on new material with 2019 Eurovision champion, Duncan Laurence, and the writers for his 2020 entry, Universo.

Translated to English, the tweet reads:

"Yesterday I had a session with Duncan Laurence, Dangelo, Dan Hammond and Mikolaj Trybulec and we did very cool things. I hope to be able to reveal more details soon!”

This tweet has caused numerous speculations that Duncan Laurence might be working with Blas for his Eurovision 2021 entry, possibly as a songwriter. This news however, has not been confirmed by Duncan, Blas or Spanish Broadcaster RTVE.

Blas and Eurovision 2020

Before the cancellation of Eurovision 2020 due to the pandemic, Blas was selected internally to represent Spain with “Universo”. The lyrics describe the challenges and fears a person faces when trying to lead authentic and truthful lives, and asks for forgiveness from the Universe (“universo”) for hiding a part of themselves.

Are you excited to hear Blas and Duncan’s collaboration?  What type of music would you like Spain to enter for Eurovision 2021?
