A live audience is still possible for Eurovision 2021

The organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 do not rule out an event with an audience in Rotterdam Ahoy.

In an interview with RTLNieuws an anonymous contest spokesperson gives details about the current options and scenario, studies by the organizer. 

Partly due to the announced test capacity of 40,000 tests per day as of 1 May, the organization has “good hope” that there will be opportunities to welcome the public to the show. “The organization maintains a lot of contact about this with the municipality of Rotterdam and Fieldlab Events about a responsible organization” the spokesperson continues. The latter is behind the organization of the government pilot events. 

There are usually tens of thousands of fans travelling to the host city of the contest to attend the shows, rehearsals and events held in the city. However, this year, due to the covid19 pandemic, special measures are being taken. 

Thus, earlier this year the organizer announced that the competition could not be organized like previous editions. Recently they have published an enhanced health and safety protocol for the participants. Concerning the side events such as the EuroClub and the Eurovision Village, for which details have been shared too

Nothing will be the same, but the organizers are doing everything to guarantee a show that meets the expectations of the public. Further announcements are expected in the coming weeks before the contest, which is expected to be held on May 18, 20, and 22.
