Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest Martin Österdahl has discussed four possible scenarios regarding how the 2021 contest in Rotterdam will take place, all depending on where we are at with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. All four scenarios depend on epidemiological data.
What are the most likely scenarios?
Österdahl has revealed that the most likely scenarios are B and C. That would be a contest with social distancing measures in place, face coverings mandatory, rapid turnaround tests, less fans in the arena and journalists in the press centre. Österdahl did also admit that scenario D cannot be fully ruled out, but said it is considerably less likely to come to that.
Is it certain that there will be an audience?
Martin Österdahl has emphasised that the presence of fans should not be taken for granted. He went on to explain that the presence of an audience is entirely dependent on the Dutch government and the restrictions in place at the time.
Österdahl went on to say that the final decisions will be made at the beginning of 2021, and we will most likely see them made public around February. The 2021 Eurovision Song Contest is due to be held at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam in the Netherlands next May, and it still remains uncertain if vaccines will be mandatory for spectators.
