New Details About Laura Thorn’s Journey to Basel

Melodi Grand Prix Project Manager, Stig Karlsen, has revealed more details about the 2021 show in a live webchat with escNorge. So, what can we expect from Melodi Grand Prix 2021?
After the cancellation of Eurovision 2020, it was confirmed that Ulrikke, Norway’s Eurovision 2020 representative, would not be automatically representing them again at Eurovision 2021, and instead, they would be hosting Melodi Grand Prix as usual. In October, Stig announced that the final will take place on February 20th, with the first of five semi finals happening on January 16th.
For Melodi Grand Prix 2021, they have decided to extend their celebrations for 60 years of MGP as they plan an even bigger and better show than what we saw in 2020. The format this year will be mostly the same as it was in 2020. Six pre-qualifiers will be guaranteed an automatic place in the final, who will be joined by five semi final qualifiers. This year however, there will also be a wild card act that will become the 12th finalist.
Four acts will compete in each semi final, where they will compete in two duels to decide which act will make it to the final. The winner of each duel will perform against one another in a super duel to decide which one act will advance to the final. The qualifiers will be determined by 100% televoting. In the first semi final, two out of the six pre-qualified acts will perform their songs, with each of the other four performing across the remaining semi finals.
Joining the five semi final qualifiers and the six pre-qualified acts in the final will be one wild card act. The public will have the chance to vote for one of the fifteen acts that were eliminated in the semi finals to advance to the final. This show is predicted to take place on Sunday 14th February, the day after the last semi final.
The first acts for Melodi Grand Prix 2021 will be revealed on January 11th, and they will be the six pre-qualified finalists and the four acts of the first semi final. The acts for the remaining semi finals will be revealed each Monday before the semi final on the Saturday.
In terms of the songs, Project Manager Stig Karlsen has promised a wide variety of genres for Melodi Grand Prix 2021 that will be performed by a mix of well known and unknown Norwegian artists.
