Luka Cruysberghs dropped from Hooverphonic over Zoom call

| November 19, 2020

Last week, we brought you the surprising news that Belgium’s 2020 and 2021 Eurovision group, Hooverphonic, had dropped their lead singer Luka Cruysberghs. But now we know a bit more about the situation. In an interview with Belgian radio station MNM, Luka explains that she was told via a Zoom call with bandmates Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts that she was being replaced by Geike Arnaert, who was previously the band’s lead singer between 1997 and 2008.

Despite describing the decision as “overwhelming” and “a bit of a shock,” Luka points out that she understands it would have been difficult to meet with her former bandmates in person. She says she is looking forward to her future as a solo artist, and plans to release a new single soon.

She also wrote on her Instagram page that she was “very grateful for all the chances, lots of tours, amazing experiences and memories.”

Of course, this means that we won’t be seeing Luka at Eurovision in 2021. However, it seems that we can expect a lot more music to come from her in the future!

What do you think about Geike replacing Luka? Are you excited to hear Hooverphonic’s song for 2021? Tell us in the comments!
